Lower Energy Bills

Everyone would love lower energy bills, but not everyone knows the tricks to pull it off. This is our quick list of techniques to try. They’ve worked for us!

  • Unplug your minor appliances when they’re not in use. This includes microwaves, blenders, and phone chargers.
  • Optimize the vents you close and those that stay open. For detailed information, see our blog post on closing vents in your home.
  • Turn the AC off! If it’s cool outside, you can likely get by without using the air conditioning. This will save the most money. For some tips on how to stay cool without the air conditioning, see our blog post on the subject.
  • Make sure you ceiling fan is spinning counter clockwise in the summer.
  • Change your air conditioner’s filter! A clogged filter directly leads to higher energy bills, as the system become less efficient.

Plant shade trees! When placed properly, a large tree in your yard can block the sun’s rays and give your whole house some shade, meaning you don’t have to rely on the air conditioner as much.
